Balderton Lake

The parish council bought the lake and surrounding land to prevent a large, city-based fishing club buying it for private use.

The lakeside now surrounded by housing had been a valued local amenity for many years.

A village fishing club rents the fishing rights from us and takes care of the water.

We have provided limestone surface walks all round the lake and regularly maintain its wooded areas and grasslands. Work has commenced to create a viewing area for disabled people.

The old railway line from Newark to Bottesford has been resurfaced by the charity, Sustrans.

The cycling and walking track runs along the western border of the lake and gives several miles of public-owned land for pleasant walks in traffic-free countryside.
