Balderton Lake
The Parish Council bought the lake and surrounding land to prevent a large, city-based fishing club buying it for private use. The lakeside is surrounded by housing and has been a valued local amenity for many years. A village fishing club rents the fishing rights from us and help take care of the area. We have provided limestone surface walks all round the lake and regularly maintain its wooded areas and grasslands. A viewing area for disabled people has been created.
The old railway line from Newark to Bottesford has been resurfaced by the charity, Sustrans to create a cycling and walking track which runs along the western border of the lake and gives several miles of public-owned land for pleasant walks in traffic-free countryside.
