Consultation launched for Cadent’s H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire

The first phase of consultation for the H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire, will run from the 3rd March to 14th April 2026.

Visit the project website: www.h2east.co.uk

The H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire (“the Project”) is a proposal by Cadent Gas Ltd (Cadent) to construct, operate and maintain a hydrogen pipeline. The pipeline will be underground and around 150km (93 miles) in length.

The Project will include Hydrogen Above Ground Installations (HAGIs) at certain points along the route to help check and monitor the pipeline. A HAGI is a site which contains equipment that supports the monitoring, maintenance and inspection of the pipeline network.

The hydrogen pipeline would enable manufacturers of steel, chemicals, bricks and food to switch from natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen; supporting industrial decarbonisation. Access to a hydrogen supply is expected to help safeguard local jobs and attract inward investment.

Cadent will require planning consent to construct and operate the pipeline. It is the intention to apply for a Development Consent Order (DCO) which would be granted by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The Project is part of East Coast Hydrogen, a collaboration between Cadent, National Gas and Northern Gas Networks to connect planned hydrogen production and storage with industrial users.

This consultation is an opportunity for stakeholders and local communities to get involved and help shape how the project is developed. We will be holding a series of in person information events and a public webinar.

Responses to the consultation must be received between 12:00 noon on Tuesday 3rd March 2026 and 11:59pm on Tuesday 14th April 2026.
