Cemetery
Balderton Parish Council's cemetery and garden of remembrance entrances are on Belvoir Road and Mount Road.
Balderton Parish Council has extended the original cemetery and garden of remembrance areas and burials are now taking place there.
Dogs are allowed in the cemetery but must be kept on leads at all times.
Opening times - The pedestrian gates are open at all times. The vehicular access off Belvoir Road is locked at all times and not used for public access. Contractors, undertakers and staff open the gates when necessary for their work.
Guidance for people wishing to bury their loved one/someone at our cemetery - public
The blue text gives links to other websites - (Click on the blue to be directed to their site).
- We do not reserve spaces in our cemetery when people are making arrangements for their own or someone else's funeral before they die.
- We accept bookings through funeral directors - please see points 4 -6 below.
- We do accept bookings (through funeral directors for relatives/people) who did not reside in our parish. The charges for the burial/interment of those who did not live in Balderton are higher and can be viewed in the fees document above. The reason for this is that we use some of the precept paid by Balderton parish residents for the upkeep of our cemetery. They are contributing to the costs for the provision and management of our cemetery.
- We currently don't accept direct bookings from relatives/people for spaces in our cemetery. Local funeral directors such as Gill's (E Gills and Sons) and the Lincolnshire Co-op liaise with loved ones/residents to book and arrange funerals. Other funeral directors are available and you can opt to go with them but they may not know our systems as much as the 2 named above. Our council recommend you shop around for the best provider for you.
- Advice can also be sought from Citizens Advice.
- Please contact a funeral director to help you through the process of arranging a funeral. Named funeral directors are detailed above to help anyone arranging a burial/interment and Balderton Parish Council's cemetery. The council does not provide recommendations of which funeral director to go with.
Guidance for Funeral Directors
- We take bookings from all funeral directors but mainly deal with businesses based in Newark or nearby. If you are a local funeral director and would like to be listed on this page please get in touch by email (we reserve the right not to list providers on our website). If you are wishing to arrange an interment/funeral from further afield, please email us and read the information on this page of our website. Special arrangements for access and other factors (see point 3) will need to be made for funeral directors not named in point 4 of the Guidance for people wishing to bury their loved one/someone at our cemetery - public paragraph above.
- We can send you the forms you require to book a burial/interment with us. A link to our prices can be found above. We ask for payment by BACs from funeral directors and for families to be asked to pay the funeral director (for the grave/memorial space) as we invoice funeral directors for this.
- We do not organise or pay for grave digging. Funeral directors need to arrange their own grave digger. A local grave digger is Ian Shipley Grave Diggers Limited. Ian's email is shipleyian@hotmail.co.uk. If you choose to use an alternative grave digger, access will need to be arranged and point 4 details what paperwork they will need to provide for their chosen grave digger.
- All funeral directors, grave diggers and contractors providing services in the cemetery must provide a risk assessment and evidence of insurance for their activity in our cemetery. Funeral directors must obtain and send any risk assessments/insurance for their subcontractors working in our cemetery (e.g. alternative grave digger, vehicle provider, memorial installer).
- Guidance for memorials is included in the form that is attached to this page above.
- Please get in touch using the contact details on this website if you wish to organise a funeral in our cemetery.
