Balderton’s Community Commemorates VJ Day 80th Anniversary
Balderton Parish Council
RAFA Balderton Branch, RAF Balderton Research Group and Balderton Parish Council – Beacon Lighting
Balderton Parish Council hosted an 80th Anniversary of Victory Over Japan Day Commemorative Beacon Lighting on Friday 15th August, bringing together veterans and residents to reflect and remember the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who served on every front in World War 2.
The event, held at Balderton Village Centre, Coronation Street began with live singing from the Voices Community Choir, displays from Royal Air Forces Association Balderton branch, RAF Balderton Research Group and Laurence Goff’s Bomber County Gateway Trust Project. Veterans, local residents and councillors from the area came to commemorate the day. The event brought together attendees across generations, celebrating the community’s shared heritage and remembrance.
Balderton Parish Council Chair, Jane Buxton, said:
“Balderton Parish Council are once again thankful for the ability to be able to support our local veterans and community in this way. The ultimate sacrifice made by previous generations and their families in all conflicts, must never be forgotten.
The lighting of a beacon is a symbol of hope and remembrance, and we hope it gave opportunity for the Balderton community to come together on this occasion and demonstrate their appreciation in some small way.”
