Scheduled Maintenance at Balderton Lake

8-12 June 2026

Balderton Parish Council wishes to inform residents that its specialist contractor will be undertaking planned aquatic weed removal works at Balderton Lake from Monday 8 June to Friday 12 June 2026.

This programme forms part of the Council’s ongoing maintenance and management of the lake. The works have been planned in consultation with Grove Angling Club, which has communicated to its members that fishing will be suspended from 8 to 12 June to enable the contractor to undertake the works safely and efficiently.

The Council has also worked closely with its contractor to fully understand the proposed methodology and the measures that will be taken to minimise potential impacts on wildlife. This includes arrangements to identify and monitor nesting birds and, where necessary, establish appropriate exclusion zones around nesting areas and other sensitive habitats to protect wildlife throughout the duration of the works.

Separately, the Council has continued to liaise with the relevant authorities following the recent tragic incident at the lake. Following these discussions and having received the appropriate assurances and guidance from the relevant authorities, the Council has been advised that the planned maintenance works may proceed as scheduled.

During the works, aquatic weed will be removed from the lake and placed in three designated areas around the site. This allows insects and small vertebrates the opportunity to return naturally to the water. After approximately one week, the dried weed will be made available free of charge to local gardeners and allotment holders for use as a natural compost. Details of collection arrangements will be published on the Parish Council’s website and Facebook page.

The contractor will access the lake from the area near Peg 1. For safety reasons, residents and visitors are kindly asked to keep clear of the working area while the maintenance is being carried out.

Balderton Parish Council thanks residents, anglers and other lake users for their patience, understanding and cooperation while this important maintenance work is undertaken.
